Peace entails many perspectives. There is peace between humanity and God, between humans in various associations and situations, and inner peace. Ideally, we would have them all! But where does it come from? What is the source? Paul explains it in Colossians 3:15.
And let the peace of God rule in your hearts, to which also you were called in one body; and be thankful.
Regardless of the perspective, peace begins with God. So if we want it, we must look to Him to find it.
Here are some pointers to finding that sometimes elusive peacefulness.
1. Make sure you are not practicing sin.
It causes harm in ways we never think it will. In fact, it will affect every part of your life and you will have symptoms of it in places sin does not actually exist – just as cancer and toxins in the body can cause various body parts to stop functioning properly.
2. Spend more time in prayer seeking peace within.
Since God is the source, it only makes sense to go to Him.
3. Address the problems.
If there are problems between you and other individuals, do what you can to resolve it, within the guidelines of Scripture. Putting it off only increases your restlessness!
4. If others just don’t want to get along, you can still address the problem on the inside.
Why is it bothering you so much? Is it something you just want to keep feeling? What mental attitude adjustment can you make in order to start feeling release from the pressures of your situation? There are always ways to calm the mind. Sometimes we must learn to release tensions in order to effectively deal with the situation.
Peacefulness is a part of the Christian’s lifestyle. If we are missing it, we are not truly living!
