“Then God said, ‘Let Us make man in Our image, according to Our likeness; let them have dominion over the fish of the sea, over the birds of the air, and over the cattle, over all the earth and over every creeping thing that creeps on the earth'” (Genesis 1:26).
God created us to rule over His creation, and we do. But there is a sense in which that is only accomplished through Jesus.
Hebrews 2:6-9 states, “But one testified in a certain place, saying: ‘What is man that You are mindful of him, or the son of man that you take care of him? You have made him a little lower than the angels; you have crowned him with glory and honor, and set him over the works of Your hands. You have put all things under his feet.’ For in that He put all in subjection under him, He left nothing that is not put under him. But now we do not yet see all things put under him. But we see Jesus, who was made a little lower than the angels, for the suffering of death crowned with glory and honor, that He, by the grace of God, might taste death for everyone.”
Clearly God intended that man be head over the creation. It’s a blessing granted to us when He created us “a little lower than the angels”. But because of the fall of man, there is one area of life that is not under our subjection: our own lives.
Death was never intended for mankind, but it was all part of God’s plan when we fell. We know that mankind does not see all things under subjection, but we do see the man, Jesus. He suffered and died for everyone, and through Him we can conquer even death itself. That’s what makes life worth living.
Thank God today for life and the promise of eternal life through Jesus our Lord!
